Senator Michael Bennet was born on November 28th, 1964, in New Delhi, India. His father is Douglas Bennet, who worked for the U.S. State Department. Bennet’s family later moved to Washington, D.C [4].
The Senator studied from Wesleyan University and received a bachelor’s degree in History in 1987. He worked as an aid for Ohio Governor Richard Celeste from 1988 to 1990. He then attended Yale Law School and worked as the main editor for The Yale Law Journal until his graduation in 1993.
Following this, Senator Bennet was a clerk for the Fourth Circuit of Court Appeals. He then worked as a counsel for the U.S. deputy attorney general from 1995 to 1997. Bennet was also the special assistant for the U.S. general for Connecticut in 1997. He also married Susan Daggett during this period.
Bennet relocated to Denver and worked as the director for Anschutz Investment Company. He helped businesses with reorganizing after bankruptcy orders and with restructuring debt. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper discovered Bennet during this period and appointed him as his chief-of-staff in 2003.
Michael Bennet was then appointed as superintendent for Denver public schools. He received praise for improving the Denver public schools system, which was in disarray at the time.
