Steven David Daines was born on August 20th, 1962, in Los Angeles, California, USA. His parents were Clair W. Daines and Sharon R. Daines. Daines moved to Montana with his family in 1964 and was raised in the city of Bozeman.

Steve Daines completed his early education in Bozeman and graduated from Bozeman High School [3]. He then attended Montana State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Daines joined the Sigma Nu fraternity while studying at Montana State University [4].

Steve Daines developed an interest in politics from an early age. He was among the youngest delegates to attend the 1984 Republican National Convention. Daines also became the President of the MSU College Republicans.

Corporate Career

Steve Daines began working for Procter & Gamble in 1984 [5]. He spent seven years managing the company’s operations within the United States. He then moved to China and Hong Kong along with his family for a period of six years. Daines expanded Procter & Gamble’s ventures in Asia during this time.

Steve Daines eventually left Procter & Gamble in 1997 before joining his family’s construction business in Montana. Three years later, Danes was hired at RightNow to manage the company’s customer care division [6]. He left the company in March 2012 to campaign for Congress.

Political Career

Steven Daines’ first attempt at running for a public office occurred in 2008. He ran for Lieutenant Governor of Montana along with Governor nominee Roy Brown. The pair challenged Democrat Governor Brian Schweitzer and John Bohlinger. However, Daines and Brown lost the election after receiving only 33% of the vote [7].

Steve Daines announced his intention to run for the U.S. Senate in November 2010. He eyed the seat held by Democrat Jon Tester. However, he dropped out after Republican Denny Rehberg announced he would be running for the same seat.

Steve Daines then pursued the House seat being vacated by Rehberg. Daines won the Republican primary by securing 71% of votes. He then defeated Democrat Kim Gillian after receiving 53% of the vote.

Steve Daines announced he would be running for a U.S. Senate seat in November 2013 [8]. He aimed to secure the vacant senate seat being left by Max Baucus. Daines became a favorite in the Senate race and won the Republican primary with  83% of the vote. He then won the general election, beating Democrat Amanda Curtis with 57.8% of the vote.

Senator Daines ran for re-election in 2020 and defeated Democrat Steve Bullock by securing 55% of the vote.

Senator Daines has achieved many things as a member of the U.S. Senate. He introduced the Balanced Budget Accountability Act bill in February 2013 [9].
