Roger Marshall Career

Roger Marshall completed his residency at Bayfront Medical Center located in St. Petersburg Florida. He became the chairman of Brent Regional Hospital. Additionally, he served as the vice president of the Farmers Bank and Trust.

Marshall joined the United States Army. He served 7 years in the Army retiring as a captain. His political career started later in life in 2016. He contested for the United States House of Representative post during the 1st Congressional district election in Kansas. Marshall won the Republican primary election defeating incumbent Tim Huelskamp. He won the general election with a clear majority defeating independent candidate Alan LaPolice and Libertarian Kerry Burt. He was endorsed by the Kansas Farm Bureau and the National Association of Wheat Growers.

Marshall had multiple committee assignments. He was a member of the committee on Agriculture, Science, Space, Technology, and Small Business.

In 2019, Marshall announced his plan to give up the U.S House seat to contest for the Senate position from Kansas. The Senate elections were held after the retirement of incumbent Pat Roberts. Marshall contested against Donald Trump’s ally Kris Kobach in the primary elections. He won the election by a close margin.

Marshall won the general election by defeating main rival Democrat Barbara Bollier who was the State Senator.

The results of the 2020 presidential elections were criticized by Marshall. He claimed that legislatures were usurped by secretaries of states, governors, and judges. He opposed the certification of the vote on January 6.

Marshall has a conservative stance on political issues. The senator opposes abortion rights even in case of incest and rape.

Marshall is also not convinced about the medical benefits of marijuana. During the coronavirus pandemic, Marshall fueled the conspiracy theory that the CDC was inflating death numbers due to COVID. After Facebook removed his posts, he called it corporate censorship that feeds misinformation.

Marshall was involved in a confrontation with his neighbor in 2008. His neighbor had called 9-1-1 alleging that Marshall tried to run him over with a vehicle. He settled a civil suit brought about by the neighbor for reckless driving.
