James Paul Lankford was born in Dallas Texas. His father James Wesley Lankford owned a dairy farm. Linda Joyce was his mother who taught as an elementary school librarian.

Lankford’s parents divorced in 1972 when he was four years old. His mother remarried when he was twelve years old and they moved to Garland, Texas. He attended Lakeview Centennial High School located in the city.

In 1990, Lankard graduated from the University of Texas with a BA degree in Secondary education. He obtained a Master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994.

Lankard married Cindy Hennessey in 1992. The couple has two daughters. They lived in Edmund near Oklahoma City.

James Lankford Career

James Lankford worked at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma after completing his master’s in Divinity. He served as the program director of Falls Creek between 1996 and 2005.

Lankford’s political career started in 2010. He contested for the United States House of Representatives elections representing Oklahoma. In the runoff elections, he defeated democrat Billy Coyle.

In 2012, Lankford again took part in the U.S House of Representative elections. He was reelected as he defeated Democratic nominee Tom Guild. After winning the elections, he was nominated as the House Republican Policy Committee chairman. He was also nominated the chairman of the US House Oversight subcommittee on Energy, Health Care, and Entitlements.

In 2014, Lankford contested for the United States Senate special election representing Oklahoma. He defeated former state senators Randy Brogdon and House Speaker T.W. Shannon in the Republican primary. In the general election, he defeated retiring state senator Constance N. Johnson.

Lankford defended his senate seat in the 2016 U.S Senate election. He got re-elected by defeating Democratic consultant Mike Workman with a majority vote. Lankford won by a clear majority in every county in Oklahoma.

In 2021, Lankford is part of the Committees on Appropriations, Finance, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Indian Affairs. He has also been named for the Select Committee on Ethics.

Lankford is a typical conservative Republic. He has an A rating from the National Rifle Association. Also, he has opposed the legalization of marijuana and abortion in the state. Lankford also opposes LGBT advocates. After President Barack Obama legalized gay marriage, Lankford said in an interview that homosexaulity is a choice and employers should terminate homosexuals.
