James Paul Lankford was born in Dallas Texas. His father James Wesley Lankford owned a dairy farm. Linda Joyce was his mother who taught as an elementary school librarian.
Lankford’s parents divorced in 1972 when he was four years old. His mother remarried when he was twelve years old and they moved to Garland, Texas. He attended Lakeview Centennial High School located in the city.
