Robert Patrick Casey Jr was born on April 13th, 1960, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His parents were Bob Casey Sr. and Ellen Harding. The Casey family has Irish roots [3].

Bob Casey played basketball while attending Scranton Preparatory School. He graduated in 1978 before attending College of the Holy Cross. Bob Casey then attended the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America and graduated from the institute with a Juris Doctor degree in 1988 [4]. He married his wife, Terese Casey while studying at The Catholic University of America Law School.

Following this, Bob Casey practiced law in Scranton, Pennsylvania, from 1991 to 1996.

Political Career

Bob Casey began his political career in 1996 after being elected as the Pennsylvania Auditor General. He was then re-elected in 2000 and served as Pennsylvania Auditor between 1997 and 2005. 

Bob Casey Jr ran for the position of Pennsylvania Governor in 2002. The junior Casey attempted to follow in the footsteps of his father, Bob Casey Sr., who served as Governor of the state from 1987 to 1995. However, Bob Casey Jr lost to Philadelphia mayor and victor Ed Rendell in the Democratic Primary. 

In 2004, Casey ran for Pennsylvania Treasurer. He won the position and served from 2005 to 2007 [5].

Bob Casey Jr received calls from Chuck Schumer and Senator Harry Reid in 2005 urging him to run for the U.S. Senate. They wanted him to run against Republican Rick Santorum in the election.

Casey managed to defeat Democratic primary election opponent Chuck Pennacchio after receiving 85% of the vote. He then beat Rick Santorum in the general election by securing 59% of the vote [6].

Bob Casey then sought re-election in 2012. He ran expensive pro-Casey ads on television in an attempt to win voters. His efforts were successful, and he was re-elected with 53.7% of the vote. 

Bob Casey was re-elected once again in 2018 after defeating Republican Lou Barletta with 55.7% of the vote.
