Ronald Wyden was born on May 3rd, 1949, in Wichita, Kansas. His parents were Peter H. Wyden and Edith née Rosenow [3]. Wyden’s parents possess a Jewish background and escaped Nazi Germany in the 1930s. The young Wichitan grew up in Palo Alto, California, and attended Palo Alto High School [4]. Ronald then pursued his higher education at the University of California after receiving a basketball scholarship. Wyden later transferred to Stanford University and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts. He then studied at the prestigious University of Oregon School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in  1974.

Political Career

Ron Wyden made his way into politics after running for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1980. He managed to beat incumbent Representative Bob Duncan in the Democratic primaries before defeating Republican Darrell Conger in the general election [5]. Wyden was then re-elected to the House a whopping seven times. 

Ron Wyden ran for the Senate in 1996. He eyed the seat being vacated by Bob Packwood and defeated Senate President Gordon Smith. He also won the Senate election in November of the same year. He currently holds the seat that was held by Wayne Morse, who Wyden worked briefly worked for in 1968.
