Jeff Brain was born on 29th December 1989. The American was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He is also known by the nicknames Left Brizzle, David McGruffin, Beyonte, Mellow, Scottie Pimpin’, Left Brain Israel, and Lord Rudah. He has not revealed anything about his family. He is the cousin of famous hip-hop record producer JHawk.

Brain attended Crenshaw High School located in Los Angeles. His classmate at high school was Mike G. Scroll. The duo later founded music record label companies MellowHype and OddFuture. He is the godfather of Mike’s son Trenton.

Musical Career

Left Brain has been influenced by hip-hop songs since childhood. He copied the styles of famous African American rappers when singing in front of his friends. He made music independently but did not release the music.

Left Brain along with his friend Hodgy Beats formed the hip hop band MellowHype in 2007.

The same year several rappers including Tyler Okonma, Left Brain, Hodgy, Casey Veggies, Jasper Dolphin, and the Super 3 created an alternative hip hop collective Odd Future. The group released their first mixtape The Odd Future Tape in November 2008.

MellowHype released the group’s first mixtape, Yellow White, in February 2010. Their debut studio album titled BlackenedWhite was released in October 2010.

Odd Future went on a tour of London and New York in November 2010. The group members were well-received by the fans and the event provided them with great publicity.

In April 2011, Left Brain and his friend Hodgy performed with the Mississippi-based group Drum of Death. The concert was aired on the Daily Habit program of Fuel TV. The same month Odd Future signed a deal with Sony Music Entertainment and RED Distribution to create a record label company Odd Future Records.

MellowHype also performed at the BBC music showcase along with the rapper Tyler Okonma. The same year a remastered version of their song BlackenedWhite was released by Fat Possum Records.

Left Brain and Hodgy released many songs in 2012. They released the song La Bonita featuring Mile G., Frank Ocean, and Earl Sweatshirt in July 2012.

In September 2012, MellowHype released several songs including Wasabi, Decoy, Greezy, LP, and What. Wasabi featured famous rapper Juicy J. In addition, the song Greezy included a guest appearance by rapper and songwriter Domo Genesis.

Domo Genesis, Left Brain, and Hedgy created MellowHigh in April 2013. The trio released their debut album the same year. The group’s album peaked at number 89 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The following year the group released their second mixtape titled INSA (I Need Some Answers).

In 2015, the group MellowHype was disbanded and Left Brain and Hodgy decided to concentrate on their music career. MellowHype reunited briefly in 2017 to release Left Brain’s mixtape titled MindGone Vol. 1.

Odd Future Records held a concert at the Low-End Theory club in Los Angeles in August 2018. The upcoming albums of the group members include Verses: GT by Mike G. and H.O.P.E. by Ash Rider.
